Sparks, Linda. The Basics of Corset Building: A Handbook for Beginners. New York: St. Martin’s Griffin, 2009.
This book demonstrates techniques of modern construction for corsets. It places very little emphasis on historical accuracy, and emphasizes the wide variety of modern technologies, tools, techniques, and accoutrements available for corsetry, in part clearly because the author runs a corsetry supply company, Farthingales, and this is an area of great expertise for her. As an overview of corsetry materials available today, it is quite thorough and helpful. Unfortunately, the book places very little emphasis on the history of corsets, or historical styles, however, for more general costuming needs, it could be useful. It is instructional. It contains monochrome images. It contains a glossary but not a bibliography.
