Darnell, Paula Jean. Victorian Millinery: Ladies’ Hats 1850-1900. Reno, Nevada: Fabric Fancies, 1995.
This book is a casual amateur history of Victorian millinery, composed primarily of copied images and text from 19th century periodicals, often without references or citations. It includes some copies of patterns for particular designs, Harper’s Bazaar, but there are few, and no new information is added except that full-size patterns are available from the publisher for purchase. I would not recommend this book, though it does collect a fair number of images which could potentially be useful, albeit available elsewhere as well. The book is, in general, not instructional, though it does contain some excerpted 19th century directions. The images are monochrome, line drawings copied from 19th century sources. It does not contain a bibliography.
