Waugh, Norah. Corsets and Crinolines. New York: Theatre Arts Books, 1970.
This is one of the historical costuming classics, and remains an excellent resource in the research of historical underclothes, specifically foundation garments (stays, corsets, and girdles) and skirt supports (panniers, crinolines, bustles, etc.). The organization of the book is somewhat confusing, and it does have some gaps, but it is nevertheless extremely useful, containing a multitude of scale pattern schematics, along with garment illustrations, though the schematics, unfortunately, are not graphed. The construction information is limited, with much of it simply quoted from period sources. This book is most helpful when used in conjunction with other sources. The book is instructional, with diagrams both period and modern. It contains monochrome images. It does not contain a bibliography.
